Final Magazine Add

MAG AD EDITED

This is the edited version of the mag advert. When we got audience feedback on the magazine advert many people said that they felt as if the advert and Cd cover didn't really link together much. We really liked our magazine advert and didn't want to change much, so we took this idea of having a small image of the album cover on the side from another magazine advert we came across when research, so that when the audience go to buy our album after seeing our magazine advert they know exactly what they are looking for.

CD DIGI PACKS EDITED

After getting feedback from class members on our CD covers, the main point nearly everyone made is that the name, “Jackie boy” which is the actual name of the artist, suggests more than one artist but he only have one person so it does look slightly odd. Consequently we changed the name to “Jackie B”

We changed the background of this section of the cd pack because when we got some feedback from our class members and Facebook users, we were told by many people that they felt like the background of blue sky didn’t really match the rest of the CD pack. So we decided to go out to the Westminster Bridge again and get a nice picture of the houses of parliament as some parts of the music video where shot there.
We changed the background of this section of the cd pack because we got similar feedback for this section too. So we used the same background as the front section so that they match but we changed the effect a bit.

Second Cd Digi-Pack
This is the part of the pack where the lyrics are going to be written. To do this section it was very challenging because we had to change the contrast and brightness of the picture of Michael we took so that we can see the lyrics. We choose the purple text because it contrasts with the blue background and we also choose purple to be our primary colour so it will be on our Cd digipak and Magazine Advert. Luckily when taking the picture the sky was clear and blue or else we would have used Photoshop to make it look clear and blue.

This is the back of the digi pack. It is basically a little message from artist to his fans. This is another section we didn’t really change as people really liked this idea. The background is actually a picture we found in a restaurant and then what we did was in Photoshop we played around with it a bit making it look like a painting. On our previous design we didn’t do this, we kept it normal.
This is the part of the digi pack where the CD will go. In this is section we did the exact same as the back. The background is another picture we found in the same restaurant and then we took it to Photoshop and put the same effect on it as the back section of the digi pack.

This is our main picture that we used to make the cover. We took it to Photoshop and added this effect called “poster edges” to make everything look sketched out and this also made the background slightly darker.
This is the front and main section of the CD digi pack so we thought we’ll do something slightly creative and different. On many R&B albums such as, Usher’s Raymond vs. Raymond, T.I’s T.I vs T.I.P they have the artist duplicated. This is a style that really grabbed our attention and we really wanted to use this in our cover too. The cover was quite difficult to do as well has time consuming, as we had to get four pictures and merge them together using Photoshop. What we did was first take a picture of the background in Trafalgar Square, then got Michael to sit on the stairs in different positions and cut him out on Photoshop and placed him on picture. We added effects on the background and two pictures on the side so that the picture of Michael stood out.
This is our main establishing picture of Michael. We used “Magnetic Lasso Tool” in Photoshop to cut around him and put him on the main background picture. We also added a slight glow effect on him, making it look like he’s coming out as well as making him stand out from the other two pictures of him, letting the audience know this is the main focus of the cover.
These two pictures where used the exact same way. We used the “Magnetic Lasso Tool” again here to cut Michael out and then we used the “poster edges” effect to match the background but we put the brightness slightly up so they don’t completely blend in.

Second Magazine Advert
This is the one of our magazine advert designs. It is basically an ad that is to be published on a magazine to promote the CD album. We kept the purple colour consistent from the CD cover so that there is a visual link between them other than the same person being on both. This will also help the audience identify both of them being from one artist. Many magazine adverts that we saw have logos of many sites such as, facebook, HMV, Amazon etc so we added the facebook and hmv logo as it shows the audience where they could buy the CD and show support to the artist.

This video displays the research we have done on CD covers. We explored various ways of how CD covers could be made and decided on our own idea of how we want our one to be.
We also looked at typical conventions on CD covers and used the ones that could be related to our genre of music. For example the second CD cover showed in this video has the artists image displayed in the middle. We saw the image of the artist in the middle repetitively in many CD coverrs, so we decided to use this idea and put our artist in the middle too as this could relate to other artists present in the music industry.

For our digipak , we have chosen to take many typical conventions from other artist's. We have taken the idea

MAGAZINE ADVERT
I was experimenting with photoshop just to try out what looks best so that when we make our actual magazine advert we know what to do. I took a picture of Deji and then got a picture of trafalgar square from a friend.

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK ON CD COVERS

Design For Digi-Pack

This is our digipak design, each picture is a different section of the pack.

This is where the CD will go, we kept it plain and simple because the CD will be covering most of the area.

This section is where the lyrics of the song is written. We seen nearly all CD packs have a section where the lyrics of the song(s) is written up so we are going to do the same to stick with the convention.

This is going to be the front cover of the pack, we used big bold writting at the top because most RnB CD packs have this style of writing. In most RnB CD covers the artist is is placed to one side of the cover, usually left for male and and right for female so we stuck with this RnBconvention and placed our artist on the left hand side of the cover.

This is going to be the back of the CD cover, it is a message written to the fans by the artist. We took this idea from the CD digipak of Leona Lewis, in her digipak the message is actually and written and printed on so we wrote our message using a font that looks similar to handwriting.

Idea For Digi-Pack

Although this isn’t a CD digipak, we want our digipak to look similar to this Vodafone sim pack. All CD digipak look the same but if we use this idea for our digipak it will bring a new look to them, making a very unique digipak something the audience never seen before. On the left will be where the CD goes, the middle will be front of the pack and the main section where the picture of the artist name etc will go, on the left the lyrics and a poster of the artist will come out. The poster will be folded so that it fits in the pack, its actual size will be A4

Research For Digi-pack

We looked at existing digi packs to get ideas from them and inspired by them when we are designing our own one. We came across many different styles from many genres, some were plain and some were funky but we didn't really like any of them.

We did the the ruff versions of the CD covers and then uploaded on our blog so that people can see and give us feedback on it. We all posted the link to our blog on Facebook so that people can comment on what they think. Many people press "like" on the link which meant they liked our work. One person commented that the CD covers were a bit too bright which didn't really make it look like it a R&B album, it looked more like Pop. This is one main thing we take on board and make sure we change when re-designing the covers. We also realised this when we looked at the album covers for artists such as, "Usher and Nelly" their covers have dark background or the whole cover is black and white.
